Texting and driving is one of the most dangerous forms of distracted driving. At any given moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010. Though the provisions of each State's distracted driving law vary, the majority of these State laws contain a common element that addresses texting while driving.
This April 2015, NHTSA will continue with the National Distracted Driving HVE Campaign focused on texting and driving: U Drive. U Text. U Pay with downloadable resources for States, communities, enforcement organizations and others to use to communicate the dangerous costs associated with texting and driving.
While some States and organizations may still be using the Phone in One Hand. Ticket in the Other. materials, NHTSA encourages everyone to use the new U Drive. U Text. U Pay. resources to enhance and update local enforcement efforts.
