NHTSA TV Ad or Web Video Use Requirement

No one may alter, edit, or change a NHTSA TV ad or web video.  However, a State may submit a request to NHTSA for NHTSA to “retag” the ad or video.  “Retag” means to place the State logo in the NHTSA TV ad or web video.

Note:  Only TV ads [:30] and/or web videos [:30] are available for retagging.

Thank you for visiting NHTSA’s retag page. If you have previously received any of these spots and wish to duplicate them, send an e-mail at Feedback-TSM@dot.gov for approval. Please include the reason for this request. It will take approximately 2-3 weeks to deliver re-tagged spots. Therefore, please submit your request with sufficient time to meet your TV networks' submission deadlines.

Step 1:

  • Choose TV Ads or Web Videos, and click "Apply". Select the ad you wish retagged. You can choose up to 7 ads per email request.
  • For an online preview, click on the "preview" button.

Step 2:

  • Click "Request Selected" to email your request.
  • You may choose up to 7 ads per email request.
  • Provide the State ID to appear at the end. (example: "Paid for by the [State] Governor's Office of Highway Safety.")
  • Don't forget to state whether you prefer SD or HD quality.
  • Provide shipping address (no P.O. Box).
  • Attach the State logo in Adobe (*.TIF or .EPS) format in your email request.
